our core beliefs
The doctoral statement below reflects what Wellspring members believe. Our teaching holds to these statements.
the bible
We believe that the Bible is the complete, true, and inspired word of God.
2 Timothy 3:16-17; 2 Peter 1:21; John 17:17
trinity
We believe that the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit are one and that, as three in one, God exists as a perfect community of Three, the Trinity. We believe that the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit are each a distinct person
Deuteronomy 6:4; Matthew 28:19-20; 2 Corinthians 13:14; 1 Corinthians 8:6; Colossians 2:9; Acts 5:3-4
god the father
We believe in God the Father, who has no beginning or end. He created all things and is faithful to fulfill all of His promises. He is omniscient (all-knowing), omnipotent (all-powerful), omnipresent (ever present). His character is consistent, holy, just, and loving.
Colossians 1:16-17; Deuteronomy 33:27; Revelation 1:8
god the son
We believe in Jesus Christ, God's son, who, being fully man and fully God lived a perfect life, yet despite his innocence was crucified and, on the third day, rose. We believe that through this act of sacrifice, Christ defeated death and opened the door for humanity to be forgiven and reconciled with God, and that belief in Jesus is the only path to salvation.
John 1:1; 14; 18; Luke 1:35; Romans 3:24-26; 4:25; John 14:6; Acts 4:12; Philippians 2:5-8; 1 Timothy 2:5
god the holy spirit
We believe in the Holy Spirit, who draws us to God, shows us our need for God, and fills followers of Jesus with the presence of God. The Spirit is a helper and advocate.
John 16:7-11; John 3:8; 1 Corinthians 12:4-11; 13; John 14:16-17; Ephesians 4:30; 5:18; 1 Thessalonians 5:19
humanity
We believe that God created humanity with the ability to connect with Himself and others in a community of love.
Genesis 1:26-27; Genesis 2:7; John 15:4; Romans 12:5; Romans 12:9-18
We believe that people have rejected God through sin and, left to their own devices, would be forever separated from him.
the church
We believe in one God-endorsed, universal Church made up of all people, past, present, and future, who truly trust in Jesus Christ as their Forgiver and follow him as their Leader.
Ephesians 1:22-23; 1 Corinthians 12:13; 10:32
We believe each local gathering of believers uniquely expresses the community of God to a disconnected world.
Acts 2:42-47; 1 Corinthians 1:1-2; Ephesians 4:11-13; Matthew 16:18; 28:19-20
SANCTIFICATION
We believe that faith in Jesus Christ is only the first step of the journey with God. As we walk in community, God continually transforms us so that our character becomes like that of Jesus. We are called to obediently walk with God daily and be immersed in biblical relationships full of truth and grace.
the second coming
We believe that Christ will return one day to resurrect our bodies, judge all people, and restore all of creation to its pristine intent.
Zechariah 14:4-11; Revelation 19:11-21, 20:1-6
MANHOOD, WOMANHOOD, & marriage
We believe God's design for manhood, womanhood, and marriage is perfect and is clearly outlined for us in the Scriptures. Men and women are made in the image of God and have complementary roles in the church and in the home. Marriage is a sacred institution created by God for His glory, designed for one man and one woman.
