Our Story

a church on the move

Since its beginning in 1999, Wellspring has been a church on the move. Starting in the Nance home, provided by one of the seven founding members, this body of believers has made a met in six different buildings over the years. They've full-heartedly embraced the idea of a church without walls and consequently been witness to the beauty of God's continual faithfulness.

A Narrative of God's Faithfulness and Provision

1999

A group of ministry friends meet at a local restaurant for dinner, and when the conversation turns to church, something begins to happen between them. The burden of what a church should be is overwhelmed by the idealistic imaginations of what could be. The friends linger and enjoyed their first taste of community around the table. Everyone agrees to pray and seek God about what He would have them do.

2000

God calls seven families together who begin to meet, pray, and study the scriptures regarding the vision for a new church plant in the Thomasville/High Point area. After about five months, Wellspring Community Church is formed and plans to take the church public begin coming together. The fledgling core group has a big vision and, over the course of a few months, they raise $100,000 to fund the many needs of a modern church.

2001

After months of teamwork, the seven families and a handful of others complete renovations on the church’s rented space—a shopping center storefront on Westchester Drive in south High Point. They blanket the community with a high-quality direct mail campaign, invite everyone they know who didn’t have a church family, and on January 21st, Wellspring holds its first worship service.

2006

Wellspring Community Church loses its lease on the building in High Point and begins the search for another worship space. Church leaders feel drawn to move towards the Thomasville area, where the large majority of the congregation live. Soon, the Elder Team secures space at East Davidson High School, purchases a large cargo trailer, and the church becomes “portable.” Each week, servant-hearted members set up and tear down everything.

2009

After a long season in the high school gymnasium, Wellspring begins praying about the need to move. In what can only be described as a supernatural chain of events orchestrated by a Sovereign God, the Elder Team meets Pattie Petty and secures the Petty family’s Adaumont Farm as the new worship space. Wellspring meets in their luxurious banquet barn and is blessed with the use of their lodge and grounds for three years.

2012

In the spring of 2012, Wellspring is on the move again! After six years of being a portable church, leaders secure a former bank building in downtown Thomasville and are able to unpack the cargo trailer for good! After some minor renovations, Wellspring excitedly moves in and begins services, but quickly realizes that increased ministry momentum means the church will soon be limited by its current space.

2013

Wellspring forms a Relocation Team and begins to pray and weigh the options for a new space. After months of searching, the team has a providential experience concerning a facility on May Road. After meeting with the owners, Wellspring is offered the former furniture factory building at a remarkable price, but only if funds could be raised and the deal closed by the the year's end... in 28 days. God makes a way, and on December 31st, Wellspring owns her first facility!

2014

Wellspring extends its lease at the bank facility and recruits a Design Team. After countless sketches and conversations, a floor plan is determined and architectural drawings are created. In November, leaders move forward with the plan to begin renovations at 600 May Road by launching the Building Momentum Giving Campaign, seeking to raise the capital necessary to construct a glorious new ministry campus.

2016

After a successful campaign, leaders spend months working with numerous financial institutions, finding the right fit for Wellspring’s project and people. In June, leaders partner with the NC Baptist Foundation and secure a construction loan to begin the project. Shortly thereafter, the church holds a groundbreaking ceremony and picnic, joyfully beginning the process of awarding contracts to start grading and renovations on the campus.

2018

After three years of praise-producing highs and faith-demanding lows, the renovations and parking lot are finally completed by early August. Furniture is arranged, new trees and bushes planted, and all the final decorations and details are done. On Sunday, October 21st, Wellspring has its Grand Opening Celebration with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and dedicates the building and campus for the worship and glory of God!

2020

Over the next eighteen months, God continues to astound the people of Wellspring with a tremendous season of growth and blessing. With the regular influx of new families, the children and youth quickly run out of space and the need for an expansive Children & Youth Annex becomes obvious to all. After much prayer and broad support, the church launches the Building Momentum Phase Two campaign and project!
